Where once Wagner and partner Sharin Foo were content to let their vocals and simple guitar chord patterns bear their songs melodic weight, they now employ harps, choirs, xylophones, and electronics basic drum machine pulses are eschewed in favor of more complex, swinging breakbeats. These songs are different on a structural level, too, as Wagner leaves traditional verse-chorus-verse behind several times throughout the album, opting i. The Raveonettes: Are a Danish indie rock duo, consisting of Sune Rose Wagner on guitar, instruments and vocals, and Sharin Foo on bass, guitar and vocals. Their music is characterized by close two-part vocal harmonies inspired by The Everly Brothers coupled with hard-edged electric guitar overlaid with liberal doses of noise. Their songs juxtapose the structural and chordal simplicity of 1950s and 1960s rock with intense electric instrumentation, driving beats, and often dark lyrical content, similar to another of the band's influences, The Velvet Underground. Very good album I've always liked The Raveonettes and have followed them since their very first records came out. Very interesting band and good sound I'm still pissed off that Jessica Hopper discounted them and said they sucked in her book called The First Collection of Criticism by a Living Female Rock Critic. Agree with DBMTB. I bought it when they first announced it, just because I love the Raveonettes and the description sounded super cool. The sleeve is neat idea but this thing annoys the hell out of me when I see it sitting on my shelf.
This release is a little disappointing, especially compared to price. Sound quality of the pressing is vastly inferior to the standard black vinyl pressing. Not just a little bit. It's barely listenable. And the green gel in the liner just falls to the bottom if stored upright. Needs to be stored on its side - which is not conducive to display, which is surely the whole point of an item like this. Sorry Sune and Sharin. I love what you guys do... and if any band is super-sweet to its fans, it's you guys. But you don't need to do one of these for your next album. But to be fair... there is a WAV quality download that comes with it.Idea is great. But didn't come out so well in final execution.
mine sounds pretty good. but five years on, the gel is drying out......
Years late reply but better late than never. I have both versions and think this version sounds much better than the black vinyl. No surface noise or pops, and just sounds much fuller/clearer/better to my ears. Maybe you got a duff copy or just needs a good clean, but I love the sound of mine. I store it laying flat sealed in two poly bags just in case it ever leaks. It's so not convenient but I still love having it I must say!
