Notes

Complete radiobroadcast recorded live at the Palaghiaccio, Roma, February 22, 1994.

Track 24 was recorded live in the Sony Music Studios, New York, November 18, 1993 and broadcasted on the "(Nirvana's) MTV Unplugged".

Released only five weeks after the actual concert, this pressing by Octopus is the prefered audio source for this famous radiobroadcast. The original first pressing has the blue-green octopus on disc. Later counterfeited pressings have a black and red octopus on disc, or were available on digipak.
Some releases of this show are clones of the Octopus pressing ("A Roman Prophecy", "Coma"), but many others are using downgraded ("The Final Fix") or even incomplete ("Europe 1994", "Roma") audio sources.

Recorded live in Rome, Italy, on February 22, 1994, XXII MCMXCIV documents what is said to be the last complete concert Nirvana ever performed, as Kurt Cobain's subsequent vocal problems not evident here cut short the remaining shows of their European tour. From the intro to the set opener, Radio Friendly Unit Shifter a wounded take on the Smoke on the Water riff, it's obvious that this is a high-caliber, stereo-soundboard recording. Nirvana Bootography Review: The easiest way to spot the clone from the original release is the lack of a full booklet AND if you look on the disc itself this reason, XXII II MCMXCIV receives a grade of 100 while Roma gets 99 one point subtraction. This is the best disc to get the highest quality complete version of 2-22-94. Special thanks to Matt Reeder for updating our info. This is one of, if not, the most common Nirvana show out there. Its not anything special in terms of songs played but the quality of the recording is why it is so popular. Krist has some good jokes too. The first disc to feature this show was "XXII II MCMXCIV" which came out very soon after Kurt died (I think I read somewhere it came out the week his body was found). "Roma", which is arguably the most common version of the show, is slightly edited but still contains every song and the full end jam/speech. Other discs such as "Heart Shaped Rome" and "Coma" are excellent clones. There a handful of awful discs but there are more good discs than bad discs. This show is a must have for beginners and veteran bootleggers, just do a little research before you buy so you don't get a dud by accident.

I have no idea why this hasn't been released officially yet. This has far superior sound quality to official recordings like Muddy Banks Of Wishkaw (which I think is terrible, by the way), a far better setlist, and better cover art to boot! The disc could be a little cheaper, but since this is the highest quality recording I have ever heard, I guess it is a fair price. Any self-respecting Nirvana fan should own the 22-2-1994 show in some form or another (Roma, XXII MCMXCIV, Roman Prophecy, etc...). The show was recorded in Rome in case you were wondering.

And I think you're right about musdy banks. It had a lot of hype but it was a letdown...why do a compilation live album not just a show? It doesn't flow and the best parts are the crowd interactions that get cut....plus spank thru was not a hit. I do still love the orange layout on the cover of that record.

Ya I had this when I was a kid and it was really one of my favorite at the time that weren't outcesticides

The sound quality on this bootleg is really good! Must've been taken from the soundboard.
